Opposition Unprepared for 2027, Atiku Remains Sole Serious Contender — Dele Momodu
Media mogul Dele Momodu says Nigeria’s opposition is unprepared for the 2027 election, insisting Atiku Abubakar is the only contender with the structure, resources and strategy needed to challenge President Tinubu.
Media entrepreneur and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Dele Momodu, says Nigeria’s opposition is currently not positioned to mount a strong challenge against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
According to Momodu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is the only opposition figure who has demonstrated the structure, capacity and seriousness required for the race.
In a statement shared on his verified X account, Momodu questioned how opposition aspirants expect to defeat Tinubu without aligning around a unified plan.
“I often wonder how some opposition Presidential aspirants can think of knocking out President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027… when they have not even come together to agree on a common strategy. Let me emphasize that contesting for the highest office in any country is no child’s place,” he wrote.
Momodu described Atiku as the only aspirant showing true preparedness, noting that the former vice president “is meticulously and practically pursuing his dreams,” as he heads into what would be his seventh presidential attempt.
“The only opposition leader who seems to understand what it takes to be competitive is Alhaji Atiku Abubakar,” he said.
He stressed that defeating an incumbent president will require much more than online enthusiasm or fiery rhetoric.
“It would require a stupendous war chest… extensive and nationwide structures, religious balancing and overwhelming support from ethnic groups,” Momodu added.
He argued that several opposition hopefuls appear unready or may have “given up on their dreams,” suggesting some might not oppose Tinubu securing another term.
Momodu also referenced the recent withdrawal of police escorts from VIPs, alleging that the move is a political strategy targeted at Atiku.
He said he “smelled a rat” when the directive was issued, claiming that “Atiku was one of the main targets.”
The Ovation Magazine publisher urged opposition players to remain vigilant as the 2027 race approaches, warning that only a coordinated, well-funded and nationwide effort can pose a real challenge to President Tinubu.
