Osun 2026: APC Stakeholders Should Adopt Omisore as Consensus Candidate to Unseat Adeleke – Jamiu Olawumi
He highlighted Omisore’s political track record, including his tenure as Deputy Governor of Osun State from 1999 to 2003, two terms as a senator, and his role as Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. According to Jamiu, Omisore’s contributions to national development are evident, particularly in the Southwest region.
Alhaji Jamiu Olawumi, a former aide to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, has called on stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress (APC) to adopt Senator Iyiola Omisore as the consensus candidate for the 2026 Osun State governorship election. Speaking to journalists in Ilorin, Jamiu emphasized that only Omisore possesses the political experience and influence needed to defeat the incumbent Governor, Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“The situation we found ourselves in Osun State demands that a veteran who is capable and has capacity should contest the next governorship election,” Jamiu stated. “All other contestants, other aspirants within the party, are my friends. But I want to say that none of them can be said to have the capacity and competence of Otunba Iyiola Omisore.”
“Everybody should come together and agree that this is the man who has the capacity in Osun State today,” he said. “I don’t think Osun State APC should be looking at the wheel of party primaries. It should be a consensus for Senator Iyiola Omisore, who has the needed political skills and experience to unseat the current PDP government.”
Jamiu further recalled Omisore’s significant political alliances, noting that in 1999, while President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was Governor of Lagos, Omisore served as Deputy Governor of Osun. “This is payback time for him to become the governor of Osun State,” he added.
He also referenced Omisore’s behind-the-scenes roles in the emergence of President Tinubu and past successes within the APC. “As National Secretary of the party, he was in charge of the delegate list. He was also standing off to the former national chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu. He worked hard for the ticket that produced the sitting president.”
Jamiu concluded by recalling the pivotal role Omisore played in the 2018 Osun governorship rerun, where his support helped secure victory for former Governor Gboyega Oyetola. “If he had not joined us then, Oyetola wouldn’t have been governor,” he said. “This is also payback time for him.”
