Ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Osun State, some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ife Federal Constituency have passed a vote of no confidence in the state’s Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, and a former National Secretary of the party, Prof. Wale Oladipo, over alleged anti-party activities.

The leaders, who met in Ile-Ife yesterday, urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to replace his deputy, claiming Adewusi no longer enjoys the support of PDP members in Ifeland.

The meeting, which was initially scheduled to hold at the deputy governor’s residence, was reportedly disrupted by suspected thugs, forcing the leaders to reconvene at the Senatorial leader’s home.

In a communiqué signed by Adesoji Adegoke (Financial Secretary), Commissioners Dipo Eluwole and Biyi Odunlade, former Deputy Speaker Ropo Oyewale, and 35 other party leaders, the faction described the actions of Adewusi, Oladipo, and the Ife East PDP Chairman, Mr. Olasunkanmi Makinde (a.k.a. Benco), as a serious threat to the party’s success in next year’s election.

The communiqué read in part:
“Party leaders strongly condemn the invitation of thugs and hoodlums to the Ife Federal Constituency meeting by the Party Chairman, Mr. Olasunkanmi Makinde (a.k.a. Benco), purportedly on the instructions of Prof. Wale Oladipo.
“The leadership is equally disappointed by the continued fraternity of Prof. Oladipo, Deputy Governor Adewusi, and Mr. Makinde with Mr. Bimbo Ajilesoro, who has since defected from the party.
“The meeting resolved that their actions amounted to anti-party activities and posed grave danger to the PDP in Ifeland. A vote of no confidence is passed in the Deputy Governor, Prof. Wale Oladipo, and Mr. Makinde.”

‘They’re jesters’ — Oladipo reacts

Reacting, Prof. Oladipo dismissed the move, describing the conveners of the meeting as “jesters” who acted outside the party’s constitution.

“People are willing to start a crisis within the party ahead of next year, and I will not allow it to thrive. Ajilesoro is an indigene of Ile-Ife, like me, and I would not join a fight against him. The deputy governor and I are leaders, and our responsibility is to attract people to the party, not encourage them to leave. Those who want to fight the deputy governor should pick a new fight; he and the governor will be re-elected together next year by God’s grace,” Oladipo said.

PDP leadership calls for calm

In a swift intervention, the Osun State PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, urged all parties to maintain peace and abide by the party’s conflict resolution mechanisms.

“The party directs all members and stakeholders in Ife Federal Constituency to immediately suspend further actions capable of escalating the situation. All concerned are hereby instructed to maintain the status quo,” Bisi said.

He reaffirmed the party’s respect for Adewusi and Oladipo, describing them as “critical pillars” of the PDP, while stressing that grievances must be addressed internally.
