Our Today’s Community -By Muhyideen Kolawole

It is not about the dramatic scenes between the politicians in Nigeria. Not even about Covid-19. The killings and Kidnapping across the country will soon die down with time, what had brought out my pen is our young ones dying of ignorance and excelling in social vices.

Today is a reflection of yesterday’s action as tomorrow is the judgement of the presence. Either good or bad, Karma will speak and only those who pour forth water will surely walk the moist earth.

It is not about the dramatic scenes between the politicians in Nigeria. Not even about Covid-19. The killings and Kidnapping across the country will soon die down with time, what had brought out my pen is our young ones dying of ignorance and excelling in social vices.

You mince an ìrókò tree while it’s still young, when its branches establish, it expands beyond control. This is the wisdom embedded in our culture, the truth of the nature but it seems we don’t care about the future of our features.

Our children are our pride, once death scraps the head of the family, the tails take over the affairs but it saddens heart that those tails are telling tales of social entertainment and not wisdom.

Check out your environment, the younger ones there today, how many of them can represent your community in a competition? Many? Yes, that is theoretical. I beseech you to organize one and see the future of your legacy.

Men are Marlians and ladies are Savages. While you find young lads at every strategic corner of the environment, our ladies keep bringing home pregnancy. It’s never a shame anymore; it’s a pride. Even when a father wishes to proof responsible (which he has never been), mother raises alarm, “don’t you see so and so that had married for years without a child?”

That’s where we find ourselves. Better still, what we turn ourselves to. In Kwara State for example today, there are some environments that if you attain puberty and you don’t smoke tobacco, you are either a special spirit of the den or over-healthy imbecile of the century. The proof that you are now a man is to join the gang.

Moral fades man but still sees himself the book of saint life. We could fault the sour stew and gain stance, why can’t we blame the cook for a bad hand? Yes, bad cooking. These children are products of some parents. They never evolve from the sky. They are sons and daughters of men whose ends are beginning of the next generation.

Whatever man does, he reaps it in multiple. Our children are the fruits of the seeds sown. If you had been perfect in stealing a hundred Naira, it’s so sure that the child will still a thousand. Likewise if that you know is a decent life, your children will surely be more decent.

Man has never sown okra to reap maize, it’s what you do that you gain even when you do it hidden. Take a life lesson from a black that bleached but still gave birth a cloud on a starless night.
