Oyo State Launches Crackdown on Street Trading, Open Grazing
Justice Aderemi reaffirmed OYRLEA’s dedication to enforcing environmental and anti-open grazing laws, stating: “The Agency remains committed to enforcing environmental and sanitation laws, as well as anti-open rearing and grazing regulations and other related laws in the state.”
The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) has commenced strict enforcement of laws prohibiting street trading and open grazing across the state.
Led by OYRLEA Chairperson Justice Aderonke Aderemi (retd) and Environmental Task Force Chairman DCP Francis Ojomo (retd), enforcement teams conducted operations in Ibadan on Tuesday.
Commissioner for Information Prince Dotun Oyelade confirmed the development in a Wednesday statement, emphasizing the government’s commitment to prosecuting violators of these laws.
The crackdown targeted illegal street traders at Bodija Market, where authorities removed mini-stalls, mobile counters, and goods displayed along roadways.
“Recall that extensive sensitization and campaign efforts against street trading began with a flag-off at Bodija Market earlier this year in January, and such has been a continuum till date,” Justice Aderemi stated.
“OYRLEA is now taking enforcement action to ensure compliance.”
In a separate operation, authorities impounded three rams and a cow at Unique Estate, Oluyole, following resident complaints. The animals’ owner was given seven days to claim them or face forfeiture.
