Passenger Plane Makes Safe Emergency Landing in Lagos After Mid-Air Technical Fault
A passenger aircraft carrying 248 passengers and 12 crew safely landed at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport following a mid-air technical fault, with no injuries or fatalities reported.
A passenger aircraft carrying 248 passengers and 12 crew members safely made an emergency landing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Thursday after experiencing a technical fault while in flight.
The pilot successfully executed the landing as the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other emergency responders stood by on high alert on the runway.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, confirmed in a statement that no lives were lost and no injuries were reported during the incident. He also stated that the aircraft did not suffer any significant damage.
“Following distress alerts received on its 767/112 Toll Free Emergency Lines, LASEMA activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans from its Command and Control Centre, Alausa, Ikeja,” the statement read.
“Upon arrival, it was discovered that a passenger aircraft, fully loaded with 248 passengers and 12 crew members, had conducted a forced landing due to technical issues while airborne in Nigerian airspace. The pilot executed a safe landing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, with LASEMA and other emergency responders on extreme high alert.
“After checks by the pilot and engineering crew, the aircraft was moved to the apron for detailed inspection and prompt repairs. All passengers were safely evacuated, with no injuries or fatalities reported. The aircraft has been secured, and recovery operations are complete.”
LASEMA noted that the coordinated response involved multiple agencies, including LASAMBUS, LASG Fire and Rescue Service, and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
The agency praised the successful multi-agency collaboration that ensured the safety of all onboard and minimal impact on the aircraft.
