PDP Convention: Fintiri Assures Open, Transparent Contest for All Qualified Aspirants
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri says the 2025 PDP National Convention will be open to all qualified aspirants, promising transparency and fairness as party leaders and stakeholders prepare for a credible, inclusive event in Ibadan.
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2025 National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC), Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, has assured that the party’s forthcoming elective convention will be open to all qualified aspirants to test their popularity.
Fintiri made the declaration on Monday during the inaugural meeting of the Protocol Sub-committee, chaired by Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, in Abuja.
He reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to a transparent and credible process, saying no eligible aspirant would be denied participation.
“We are not going to deny anybody going into the election. I will ensure, with my advice, that even the screening committee operates without any hanky-panky,” Fintiri said.
“Anyone who has purchased forms for screening—provided there are no issues with their documents or past records—will be cleared. Go and test your popularity on the field. We will publish the list of delegates as we did with the sub-committees, so aspirants can reach out and canvass for votes.”
He emphasized that the convention would be fully democratic and transparent:
“It’s not a closed system. If you believe you are popular, go and test your strength. Those supported by the majority will emerge victorious.”
Fintiri urged sub-committee members, made up of former governors, ministers, and senators, to show commitment and sacrifice to ensure a successful convention that would produce credible party leaders.
“No stone will be left unturned to organise a successful convention. Apart from Islam, the PDP is the association that has given me everything I have achieved in life. I will forever remain grateful to this party,” he added.
Mutfwang, Others Commit to Successful Convention
Sub-committee Chairman, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, called on members to work diligently for a seamless convention.
“Those who founded the PDP will not want it to die in our time. We have a responsibility to keep the platform alive for the people of Nigeria,” he said.
Deputy Chairman of the Sub-committee, Senator Olalere Oyewunmi, described the inaugural meeting as productive, noting that the Protocol Sub-committee plays a central role in the success of the entire convention.
“PDP is known for progress and meticulous planning. Ibadan, our host city, is famous for its vibrant political culture, and we’ve shared many ideas to ensure a smooth, rancour-free convention,” Oyewunmi said.
The Sub-committee Secretary, Mrs. Toyin Balogun, who also serves as Oyo State’s Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, affirmed the state’s readiness to host the event.
“Oyo State is politically active and fully prepared to receive party members and delegates from all 36 states and the FCT. The PDP remains one of the few parties truly representative of Nigeria’s diversity,” she stated.
