PDP Governors Unite Ahead of Ibadan Convention, Promise Transparent and Credible Process
PDP governors pledge unity and fairness ahead of the November 15–16 convention in Ibadan. Governor Fintiri assures of open elections, while Governor Mutfwang calls it a test of the party’s strength and renewal.
Governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have pledged to ensure unity, transparency, and fairness as preparations intensify for the party’s National Convention scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The commitment was reaffirmed on Monday during a meeting of the PDP National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) Protocol Sub-Committee in Abuja. The session was chaired by Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and co-chaired by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
At the convention, delegates are expected to elect 19 new members of the National Working Committee (NWC), a key step in the party’s ongoing reorganisation drive.
Governor Fintiri said the committee was working diligently to ensure a credible and transparent process that upholds the principles of internal democracy.
“We are fully committed and will not leave any stone unturned. We are putting in our best and making sacrifices to have a successful convention. Not under our leadership will we let this party down,” Fintiri assured.
He noted that every aspirant who meets the eligibility requirements would be given a fair chance to contest.
“Everybody who has purchased forms for screening, once they have no encumbrances in their documents or past lifestyle, will be screened. Go and test your popularity in the field — we are already finalising the delegates’ list,” he said.
Fintiri added that the delegates’ list would be made public, emphasizing that the process would remain open and competitive.
“It is not a closed system; those who are most popular and supported by the majority will be victorious,” he said, urging members to maintain discipline and unity.
“Make sacrifices and don’t mind any noise you hear. We will be victorious at the end of it,” he added.
In his remarks, Governor Mutfwang said the convention would test the PDP’s readiness to strengthen its internal systems and uphold its founding ideals.
“Yesterday’s meeting demonstrates that the PDP is taking the convention seriously. Those who started the PDP will not wish that it should die in our time. We therefore have a responsibility to keep the platform functional for Nigerians,” Mutfwang stated.
He highlighted the importance of coordination among sub-committee members to ensure smooth logistics and protocol arrangements.
“Our job is cut out for us. The essence of this inaugural meeting is for us to know ourselves, because our real work will be in Ibadan at the appropriate time,” he said.
The upcoming convention is expected to produce new national officers and mark a new phase in the PDP’s rebuilding and repositioning efforts.
