PDP Issues Expulsion Certificates to Wike, Fayose, Nine Others
The Peoples Democratic Party has issued formal expulsion certificates to Nyesom Wike, Ayodele Fayose and nine others, with Chairman Kabiru Turaki saying the action reinforces party discipline as the PDP prepares for 2027. The party also addressed Osun primaries, security concerns and internal disputes.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday formally issued expulsion certificates to 11 high-profile members—including former governors Nyesom Wike and Ayodele Fayose—in what party leaders described as a firm step to restore discipline ahead of the 2027 elections.
The announcement was made during a media briefing in Abuja following a meeting of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC).
National Chairman Kabiru Turaki, SAN, said the move underscored the party’s determination to end internal sabotage and enforce order. He explained that the NWC had convened to review party operations, ongoing primaries, pending court cases, and handover notes from the previous leadership.
Turaki confirmed that courier dispatches had already been sent to all affected individuals, including Wike, Fayose, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Umaru Bature, Kamarudeen Ajibade (SAN), Abdurahman Muhammad, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah Nnanna, George Turna and Chief Dan Orbih.
“They have been expelled. They remain expelled. We have now certified their expulsion, and these certificates have been sent to them,” he said.
He added that the certification process was also intended to notify INEC, the police, DSS, NSCDC and other relevant bodies that the listed individuals were no longer PDP members.
“Very soon, members of the society will be informed via proper disclaimers that any person henceforth who decides to do business with them, any or all of them (in the name of the PDP), does so at his or her own risk,” Turaki stated.
On party affairs, the chairman confirmed that the NWC had validated the Osun congresses for selecting ad-hoc delegates and assured that the governorship primary in the state was proceeding without disruption. He clarified that Senator Ademola Adeleke remained a PDP member and an aspirant in the primary.
“As I speak to you now, primaries are ongoing… Governor Adeleke’s name is one of the aspirants vying for the ticket,” he said.
Turaki dismissed reports suggesting Adeleke had resigned from the party, noting that the NWC had received no official communication to that effect.
He emphasised that the PDP’s real strength lies not in officeholders but in its grassroots base.
“Our power, our strength, is not in who are members of the National Assembly or who are the governors of our party. It is in the people, and that is why the PDP is the People’s Party,” he said.
Addressing recent ambassadorial nominations for former governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Turaki said the party had yet to receive any formal notifications from them.
“If they come to us, we will certainly consider it on its merit… but for now, we have not received any communication,” he added.
In a broader national assessment, Turaki criticised the APC-led Federal Government’s handling of security, calling for comprehensive reforms.
“Nigerians are not safe on the streets, in their workplaces, on the farms, in the markets or in their homes. Every citizen lives and walks in perpetual fear. That must change,” he said.
He argued that state governors could not be considered chief security officers without authority over security agencies.
The chairman also confirmed that the NWC had reviewed ongoing legal disputes, including suits challenging the closure of party offices at Legacy House and Wadata Plaza. He expressed confidence in the party’s legal standing.
Turaki noted that the new NWC was carefully studying handover notes to ensure smooth administrative continuity and affirmed the party’s preparedness for the 2027 elections.
“We are now prepared to be saddled with the responsibility of performing our functions as the leading opposition party in Nigeria,” he said.
