The PDP leadership has appealed to former Jigawa governor Sule Lamido to drop his grievances and support efforts to stabilise the party, addressing claims made in his recent BBC Hausa interview and urging unity amid ongoing internal disputes.

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reached out to former Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, urging him to back ongoing efforts to stabilise the party and end internal disputes.

This appeal comes after Lamido’s recent interview with the BBC Hausa Service, where he criticised the party’s handling of its leadership issues and referenced a court case he filed regarding the matter.

Umar Sani, a close ally of PDP National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), responded by stating that several of Lamido’s claims were inaccurate and needed clarification.

According to Sani, Lamido’s assertion that a court barred the PDP from holding its national convention was incorrect. He explained that the court only directed the party to allow Lamido to participate in the contest after due verification—an order the PDP has already challenged at the Supreme Court.

Sani added that a separate court in Ibadan had granted explicit permission for the PDP to conduct its convention, emphasising that the exercise produced duly elected national officers, contrary to Lamido’s claim that the party lacks legitimate leadership.

He urged Lamido to prioritise unity over conflict.

“Sule Lamido is a founding figure in the PDP. At this critical moment, what the party needs is cohesion, not prolonged litigation,” Sani said.
“If we remain trapped in court battles, victory will continue to elude us.”

Party leaders also encouraged Lamido to work harmoniously with Chairman Turaki, noting their long-standing cordial relationship and stressing that collaboration is essential to guiding the PDP away from internal crises.

This reconciliation effort comes as the PDP continues to grapple with internal disagreements and public criticism over its recent electoral and administrative challenges.
