PDP Suspends National Secretary Anyanwu, Organising Secretary Bature, and Legal Advisers Over Alleged Anti-Party Acts
The PDP National Working Committee suspends National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, Organising Secretary Umar Bature, and two legal advisers for alleged anti-party activities, referring them to the disciplinary committee.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended four top national officers — National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature; National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); and Deputy National Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha — over alleged anti-party activities.
The decision was reached during a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) held in Abuja on Saturday, barely 24 hours after a Federal High Court in Abuja halted the party’s planned November 15 national elective convention.
In a statement released by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the NWC stated that the suspended officials were found to have committed several infractions contrary to the provisions of the party’s constitution.
According to the statement:
“National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature; National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); and Deputy National Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha, are suspended for one month and referred to the National Disciplinary Committee.
During this period of suspension, they cease to function in their respective capacities.”
The party further announced interim arrangements for the affected positions.
“In the case of the National Secretary, pursuant to Section 36(2) of our Party Constitution as amended in 2017, the Deputy National Secretary, Hon. Arc. Setonji Koshoedo, shall act as the National Secretary,” the statement read.
For the legal department, the party added:
“In the case of the National Legal Adviser and the Deputy National Legal Adviser, the National Director of Legal Services is hereby directed to oversee the activities of the department.”
The suspension marks another round of internal turbulence within the PDP, which has been grappling with leadership and structural disputes ahead of its next national convention.
