The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) intensified on Wednesday after the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, nullified the reported dissolution of the Akwa Ibom State Working Committee.

In a letter dated October 1, 2025, and addressed to state chairman Aniekan Akpan, Anyanwu insisted that the earlier announcement should be ignored, stressing that no formal meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) had sanctioned such action.

“For purposes of clarity, that press release should be discountenanced, because there was no formal sitting of the National Working Committee (NWC) in which such decision was taken,” he stated.

The PDP scribe accused the National Publicity Secretary of acting beyond his powers, declaring that enforcing NWC decisions does not fall within his mandate. He described the earlier statement as “null and void and of no effect.”

Reaffirming the legitimacy of the Akwa Ibom leadership, Anyanwu directed Akpan and his team to continue discharging their duties in line with the PDP Constitution (2017, as amended).

The development has deepened suspicions of internal power struggles, with top party officials issuing conflicting directives that threaten to widen factional cracks and raise questions about the authority of the NWC.
