Peter Obi: Of Phantom Stolen Mandate And Delusional Audacity -By Richard Odusanya

Unarguably, the outcome of the presidential election could not have been otherwise. The events that played out before the exercise clearly showed where the pendulum of victory and defeat was swinging. Glaringly, but rather sadly, Peter Obi one of the losers of the 2023 presidential election unwittingly may just be doubling down on the claim of a phantom “victory.”

In the recent past months, I have written extensively on the subjects of delusional audacity, falsehood, deceitfulness, and incendiary comments including brainwashing of unsuspecting gullible followers excited about magic, particularly, the ‘youths’ demography. This is exemplified by Peter Obi’s capacity for mischief. Somehow, I do sincerely hope that I am wrong. However, I know that I am not wrong. I am a pragmatist as much as I am a realist.

For emphasis, I will, therefore, like to posit that, it is a smack of hypocrisy and delusion for Peter Obi to present himself as a messiah when in actual fact he is part and parcel of the rot and a ring leader of the gang that mismanages our diversity, resources, and oppression in our political arrangements.

More specifically, I suspected that the ultimate nature of the bourgeoning populism of Obi and the Obidients (Referred to as “Headless mob” by no less a personality of the current governor of his home state Prof Chukwuma Soludo) would be decided, not by the overblown optimism, delusional audacity and not even by the Nigerian Diaspora; it was decided on the ground at home in our beloved country Nigeria.

Peter is an accident waiting to happen, any discernible mind can see that. It shouldn’t be a surprise if the “Headless mob” all decide to swallow his statement and continue in rascalism. The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi on Tuesday wondered why the All Progressives Congress (APC) did not present their presidential ticket to the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo. Obi while speaking at Dele Momodu’s birthday in London said he told the APC to present Osinbajo if they want Nigeria to work. Is it for having a weaker candidate to contend with as an opposition candidate or could it be part of the efforts to expand the frontier of religious bigotry?

Perhaps, Peter Obi needs to be reminded of how democracy works. Participatory democracy thrives on a well-known structure of internal democracy, not sentiments and emotion. Firstly, what does the statement aim to achieve? Is it to further drive home the message of religious bigotry or extremism? Secondly, on what ground would such an incoherent opinion stand? Would Yemi Osinbajo that came in distant third position in the primary election results just be handed the APC’s ticket because you like him much more than the real winner and the runners up Rotimi Amechi?

Admittedly, our leadership recruitment process may be faulty and needs serious reforms. However, there is also the need for social reengineering that can be likened to social REVOLUTION. It is the overhauling of the correct social norms which rule and dictate behavior in a society. Certainly, not the same mindset of falsehood and deceitfulness of the likes of Peter Obi.

Interestingly, Peter, who came in distant third position in the general elections and claimed that his mandate was stolen, foolishly demonstrated what I considered as shallow mindedness “Trader’s mentality” and suggested the same to his gullible listeners excited about his smooth talking – that APC should have handed its ticket to Yemi Osinbajo who also came distant third position in the APC’s primary election. Even Yemi Osinbajo himself knows about the saying that: “Results Happen Overtime not overnight.”

The suggestion that a ruling party APC should present a weaker candidate who came in a distant third position is for what reason? Is either Peter Obi is being genuinely mischievous or hallucinating? In view of the aforementioned, I daresay that; Nigeria dodged a ballistic missile. Clearly, Peter Obi is a confused mind capitalizing on the gullibility of the shallow-mindedness of his followers.

In conclusion, for all its worth, this phantom claim of a “Stolen mandate” put on a test of rationality and common sense, is as dubious as befuddling.
