The Plateau State Government has appealed for calm after ordering the closure of schools across the state as a precaution amid rising security concerns in parts of the country.

In a directive issued Friday, the State Ministry of Education and the Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (PSUBEB) instructed Government Junior Model Secondary Schools to shut down from Saturday, November 22, 2025. All primary and day schools were also directed to close beginning Monday, November 24.

The ministry emphasized that no academic or administrative activities should take place until further notice.

Following the announcement, there was increased movement across the Jos/Bukuru metropolis on Saturday as parents rushed to pick up their children in response to the government’s order.

Authorities said the decision was prompted by recent reports of student abductions in other states, noting that proactive steps were necessary to protect students, teachers, and school personnel.

Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, urged parents, school administrators, and community leaders to strictly adhere to the directive and refrain from circulating unverified information.

She reassured residents that Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s administration remains committed to maintaining peace and that the situation is under control.
