Police Arrest Seven Suspected Student Cultists in Akwa Ibom, Recover Human Skull and Gun

Police spokesperson, SP Timfon John, in a statement on Wednesday, disclosed that the suspects, alleged members of the Ku Klux Klans (KKK) confraternity, were apprehended on August 28, 2025, following a tip-off from a student of the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, who had renounced cultism.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested seven suspected student cultists found in possession of a human skull and a firearm.

Police spokesperson, SP Timfon John, in a statement on Wednesday, disclosed that the suspects, alleged members of the Ku Klux Klans (KKK) confraternity, were apprehended on August 28, 2025, following a tip-off from a student of the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, who had renounced cultism.

According to the statement:
“On August 28, 2025, operatives of the command arrested seven suspects in connection with a cult-related assault, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm and human skull.

“The arrest followed a report received on August 25, 2025, from a student of the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, that he was ambushed and attacked with dangerous weapons by members of a proscribed cult group. The victim, who had renounced his membership of the group, was left unconscious with severe injuries.”

The attackers reportedly carted away his Redmi 13C smartphone and N41,000 in cash. Police investigations led to the arrest of seven suspects, including a female.

Items recovered from their hideout included one locally-made short gun, seven live cartridges, one fresh human skull, a bottle of suspected black oil, and a bottle of Guyanese oil believed to be used for ritual purposes.

John added that investigations are ongoing and efforts are in place to track down other fleeing members of the gang.
