Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Killing of Female Lawyer in Abuja
FCT police have arrested three suspects linked to the death of lawyer Princess Chigbo in Abuja, following intelligence-led operations targeting a notorious “one-chance” robbery syndicate.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the death of a female lawyer, Ms Princess Chigbo, in Abuja.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, describing the arrests as a major breakthrough in the command’s ongoing fight against violent crime in the territory.
According to Adeh, the suspects are alleged members of a notorious “one-chance” armed robbery syndicate linked to the gruesome killing of Chigbo.
She explained that the arrests followed clear directives from the Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT, Mr Miller Dantawaye, who ordered that those responsible for the murder and similar crimes be identified and brought to justice.
“Between Jan. 5 and 20, operatives of the Command’s Scorpion Squad, led by ACP Victor Godfrey, acting on reconstructive digital intelligence, tracked the victim’s mobile phone,” Adeh said.
She added that follow-up intelligence-led operations were carried out in Dei-Dei, Dakwa and Dan-Tata communities within the Kubwa Area of the FCT.
“These intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of the three suspects; two of the suspects are biological brothers,” she stated.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had allegedly operated as a “one-chance” armed robbery gang within and around the FCT for several years.
Adeh said investigations showed that on Jan. 5, at about 5:50 pm, Chigbo boarded a black Volkswagen Golf 3 vehicle along the Kubwa Motorway, unaware that the occupants were criminals.
“Upon entry into the vehicle, the suspects wound up the tinted windows and threatened the victim with weapons in an attempt to force her to pay ransom for her own release.
“When she allegedly refused to cooperate, she was physically assaulted and pushed out of the moving vehicle along the Kubwa Motorway, resulting in her death,” she said.
She added that the suspects confessed to dispossessing the victim of her Android mobile phone and selling it at Dei-Dei for N120,000, with the proceeds shared among the three suspects and another accomplice who is currently at large.
Recovered exhibits include five scissors, two sharp dagger knives, two knives, a long chain allegedly used to restrain victims, and a pair of pliers.
“These items are believed to have been used in the commission of their criminal activities,” Adeh said.
She noted that investigations were ongoing, with intensified efforts to arrest the remaining suspect and uncover other criminal networks linked to the syndicate.
