Police Foil Robbery Attempt on Sagamu-Benin Expressway, Recover Stolen Tricycle in Ogun

The robbery took place when a Toyota Hiace bus, registered ENU 371 XJ and driven by Mba Kingsley Chukwuemeka, was ambushed by a gang of approximately ten armed robbers at Imere Junction. According to the police, a patrol team led by ASP Ayodele Ajao swiftly responded, engaging the robbers in a gunfight. One robber was killed, and others managed to flee with gunshot injuries.

Ogun State Police operatives successfully thwarted an armed robbery attempt along the Sagamu–Benin Expressway, killing one suspect and rescuing several passengers who were trapped during the attack.

The robbery took place when a Toyota Hiace bus, registered ENU 371 XJ and driven by Mba Kingsley Chukwuemeka, was ambushed by a gang of approximately ten armed robbers at Imere Junction. According to the police, a patrol team led by ASP Ayodele Ajao swiftly responded, engaging the robbers in a gunfight. One robber was killed, and others managed to flee with gunshot injuries.

The police rescued the passengers and driver, ensuring their safety, while the body of the deceased suspect was taken to the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Efforts to capture the remaining suspects are ongoing.

In a separate incident, the police recovered a suspected stolen tricycle during a routine stop-and-search operation in Itele. The tricycle, with registration number APP 171 OM and chassis number MB6M14PA0N4L10498, was abandoned by its rider who fled upon seeing the officers. The vehicle was seized and taken to the station as authorities work to identify the rightful owner.

Additionally, two suspects, Adebayo Adeleke and Ibrahim Taiwo, were arrested in Idiroko for allegedly stealing a police exhibit. The duo was caught removing a revolving light from a Hilux vehicle parked at the police station, with assistance from a local resident, Oyeyemi Omotayo. The suspects admitted to the crime during interrogation, and the stolen exhibit was recovered. The case is under investigation.
