Police Kill Two Suspected Kidnappers, Recover AK-47 in Kebbi Gun Battle

The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the death of two suspected kidnappers during a gunfight with security operatives along the Tungargiwa-Saminaka road on Sunday.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the police received credible intelligence about an armed gang planning to ambush and kidnap commuters along the route. Acting swiftly, a joint tactical team of police and other security agencies launched an operation in the forested area.

“The operatives engaged the criminals in a fierce exchange of gunfire, resulting in the death of two suspects,” Abubakar stated.

Several other gang members reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds, abandoning an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and live ammunition at the scene.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, praised the swift response and bravery of the officers, noting that ongoing aggressive patrols in Shanga Local Government Area and its environs have significantly helped deter criminal activity.

“We appreciate the timely and reliable information from residents. Their support is crucial in our efforts to keep Kebbi safe,” CP Sani said.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and continue sharing intelligence with law enforcement, assuring that the command remains fully committed to protecting lives and property across the state.

“We will not relent in our proactive efforts to rid Kebbi of criminal elements,” he added.
