Police Re-Arrest Sowore on Fresh Charges After Meeting Bail Conditions
Activist Omoyele Sowore was re-arrested shortly after meeting bail conditions at the Kuje Magistrate Court in Abuja. He is expected to face fresh charges on October 27 over remarks about President Bola Tinubu.
Human rights activist and #FreeNnamdiKanuNow campaigner, Omoyele Sowore, was re-arrested by police on Friday shortly after fulfilling bail conditions granted by the Kuje Magistrate Court in Abuja.
Sowore, alongside Prince Emmanuel Kanu — brother to the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu — a former member of Kanu’s legal team, Aloy Ejimakor, and ten others, had earlier been granted bail after meeting all court requirements.
The court had set bail at ₦500,000 for each defendant, with two sureties residing within the Federal Capital Territory, valid identification, and proof of three years of tax clearance.
However, despite meeting these conditions, Sowore was reportedly re-arrested by police operatives immediately after the court proceedings and taken back into custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
According to sources, the activist is expected to face new charges on Monday, October 27, over recent comments in which he allegedly referred to President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal.”
