Police Rescue 25 Women and Children Abducted by Bandits in Zamfara

Zamfara Police have rescued 25 abducted women and children seized by armed bandits in Kuraje village, Gusau LGA. DSP Yazid Abubakar confirmed all victims were safely recovered after a coordinated operation involving Police patrol teams and Community Protection Guards.

The Zamfara State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of twenty-five kidnapped victims—mostly women and children—who were taken by armed bandits in the Kuraje community.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the development in a statement released on Saturday in Gusau.

According to Abubakar, the bandits launched an attack on Kuraje village in the Damba area of Gusau Local Government Area.

He explained that the incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. on Friday when armed bandits invaded the community, shooting sporadically.

“During the attack, the assailants abducted ten women and fifteen children, all residents of the Kuraje community,” he stated.

He said joint Police patrol teams and Community Protection Guards immediately mobilised after receiving a distress call. The teams pursued the attackers and engaged them in what Abubakar described as a coordinated operation.

“Thanks to the professionalism and gallantry of the operatives, all twenty-five victims were rescued unhurt,” he said.

Following the rescue, the victims were taken to Sabongari, Damba, for safety and profiling before being reunited with their families.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Maikaba, commended the officers involved, describing their actions as brave and commendable. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Zamfara State.
