Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police CP Ajao Adewale, on Monday night stormed Kobi village near Asokoro, engaging suspected kidnappers in a fierce gun battle and rescuing two abducted women.

Confirming the operation in a statement, FCT Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh said the assailants opened fire on the police team while attempting to escape with their victims.

“On 15th September 2025, at about 9:15 pm, the FCT Police Command received a distress call reporting gunshots along Kobi Village Road in Kpaduma III. Acting swiftly, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, personally led a response team comprising the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Rapid Response Squad, and the Divisional Police Officer, Asokoro Division, to the scene,” Adeh stated.

Unfortunately, two community vigilantes sustained gunshot injuries during the crossfire. They were rushed to the National Hospital, where one was confirmed dead, while the other is receiving treatment and responding well.

CP Adewale praised the courage of his men and extended condolences to the family of the deceased vigilante. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report strange faces or suspicious activities in their communities for a quick police response.
