Police Shut Down Illegal Juice Factory in Anambra, Arrest Suspect
Anambra police have shut down an illegal juice factory in Okpoko, Ogbaru LGA, arresting 48-year-old Chigozie Okafor. Authorities warn the unapproved drinks branded as ‘Iyi Obeleagu Juice’ pose serious health risks.
The Anambra State Police Command has dismantled an unlicensed juice production factory in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area, and arrested a suspect, 48-year-old Chigozie Okafor, in connection with the operation.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued in Awka on Sunday.
“Police operatives of the Anambra Command attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, on Sept. 3 uncovered and dismantled an illegal factory producing toxic fake soft drinks in Okpoko, Ogbaru LGA. The operatives arrested one 48-year-old Chigozie Okafor in connection with the illicit act and recovered several fake juice drinks branded as ‘Iyi Obeleagu Juice,’” Ikenga said.
He added that the drinks were being produced without approval from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), warning that the products posed serious health risks to both adults and children.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a thorough investigation to track down other suspects involved in the operation.
The Commissioner also cautioned individuals involved in similar activities to desist, stressing that the police would not relent in protecting public health.
