Politicians Behind Rising Insecurity to Undermine Tinubu’s Government — Orji Kalu
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu alleges that politicians and foreign actors are behind Nigeria’s rising insecurity, claiming the violence is aimed at undermining President Tinubu. He expresses confidence in ongoing rescue efforts and praises security agencies.
Former Abia State Governor and Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu, has alleged that recent killings and abductions across Nigeria are being sponsored by politicians intent on destabilising President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Kalu claimed that the surge in attacks appears politically driven rather than random acts of criminality.
He suggested that the masterminds, who he declined to identify, are determined to make Tinubu fail—similar to what he said occurred during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
“What we are seeing is always a routine, something that goes with the elections. When you have an election, people will try to pressure the government in power for all kinds of things to start happening. And you can remember when President Jonathan was here, a similar thing happened,” he said.
Kalu further asserted that both local actors and foreign groups are involved in fuelling banditry and terrorism, with the intention of creating instability.
“The terrorists and the bandits are orchestrated by some members of the international community and local people who really want to destabilise the government,” he alleged.
He maintained that the timing and pattern of the attacks are not coincidental but tied to political manoeuvres ahead of the next election cycle, mirroring previous periods of heightened insecurity aimed at weakening the sitting government.
Despite his concerns, the senator voiced confidence in President Tinubu’s handling of the situation. He noted that the President had cancelled several official engagements to focus entirely on security following a series of high-profile kidnappings.
“For the first time, you see the president cancelling all his engagements. Today is Sunday, and he faced security challenges. He faced everything about security,” Kalu stated.
He reassured Nigerians that the government was working tirelessly to secure the release of abducted victims, including recently kidnapped schoolgirls.
“Those girls will be recovered. The government is making every effort to make sure these people are recovered,” he said, acknowledging that the country is experiencing “not the best of times.”
Kalu also praised the military and security agencies, noting that service chiefs and operatives had intensified efforts to restore peace.
