Based on my experience and observations, Politics in Northern Nigeria can be characterized by intense rivalries and alliances between different ethnic groups, religious affiliations, and regional interests. 

The legacy of British colonialism in Nigeria has deeply entrenched the political dominance of the north, particularly through its control of military and political power. 

However, the central government’s inability to address various socio-economic challenges such as high poverty levels, corruption among politicians, and insecurity due to violent extremism has led to dissatisfaction among northern Nigerian citizens.

Besides, issues such as resource control and allocation have prompted calls for restructuring Nigeria’s federal system from some northern elites who fear that they are losing out on patronage from Abuja.
