Prince Harry Makes Unannounced Trip to Ukraine, Meets Wounded Soldiers
Prince Harry arrived in Kyiv to back Ukrainian veterans, joining his Invictus Games team. The Duke of Sussex also met PM Yulia Svyrydenko during the unannounced trip.
Prince Harry paid an unannounced visit to Ukraine on Friday to show support for soldiers injured in the ongoing war with Russia, The Guardian reported.
The Duke of Sussex arrived in Kyiv by overnight train, traveling in a luxury carriage before being greeted at the platform in the Ukrainian capital. His visit coincided with that of Britain’s new foreign minister, Yvette Cooper, who was making her first overseas trip since assuming office last week.
Harry was accompanied by representatives of his Invictus Games Foundation, which aids wounded service members.
“We cannot stop the war but what we can do is do everything we can to help the recovery process,” Harry told The Guardian.
During his trip, he was expected to meet Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and about 200 Ukrainian veterans.
The visit comes shortly after Harry, who turns 41 on Monday, reunited with his father King Charles III in Britain earlier this week — their first meeting in nearly two years. The prince has remained largely estranged from the royal family since stepping down from official duties in 2020 and relocating to California with his wife, Meghan.
