The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has expressed shock at the murder of Professor Opeyemi Ajewole of the University of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

In a statement released by the secretary to the Sultanate Council, Sai’du Maccido, the Sultan, who is also the Chancellor of the premier university, sympathised with the deceased’s family.

The statement read, “We learnt about the brutal killing of one of our professors at the University of Ibadan. As Chancellor of the University, I condemn the killing while also condoling the family of the late professor and the university community.

“We express our sadness for losing such an ingenious don and the originality that he had been able to contribute to the quality of education and knowledge service delivery at the university during his lifetime. ”

Prof. Ajewole was murdered by assailants while he was on his way home on Monday evening.

The Sultan charged the police to investigate the murder case and bring those responsible to justice.
