The unfortunate incident angered students who took to the streets of the campus to demand justice for their colleagues. This is as Professor Florence Banku Obi-led’s administration continues to extort illegal fees to students.

UNICAL lady who was left to die in UNICAL

A 300-level student of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Library and Information Science Department, Agidi Precious Mhenuter, 22, has died after Medical Staff at the University Medical Center refused to attend to her unless she pays 200 Naira for a patient card which she is entitled to as a student of the varsity, health services are included the fees for students. 

It was gathered that she fell ill at her hostel on Saturday morning, January 28, and was rushed to the school’s medical center for treatment.

However,  she was left unattended for hours until she eventually gave up the ghost.

According to an eyewitness, “Precious got sick this morning by 4 am and we rushed her to the medical center. We got there by 4:30 am and they asked us to bring N200 for the card.”

“Even after we paid they didn’t attend to her. They left her even as she was in pain. She eventually died at 7 am, two hours after we got there. And they took her to the mortuary at about 8 am, without even contacting her parents.”

The unfortunate incident angered students who took to the streets of the campus to demand justice for their colleagues. This is as Professor Florence Banku Obi-led’s administration continues to extort illegal fees to students.

    This is a poor report. As a professional, I see that this is unbalanced. No comments were sought from the other parties. All I can see here is an attempt to incite. I commiserate with the family whose child died but the reporter should be more circumspect in his/her reporting. May the soul of the departed rest in peace.
