Real Madrid Drop Pursuit of Liverpool Defender Ibrahima Konaté
Real Madrid have withdrawn their interest in Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté, ending long-running transfer speculation. The French defender remains in contract talks with Liverpool despite the Spanish club stepping away.
Real Madrid have notified Liverpool that they will no longer pursue a future transfer for defender Ibrahima Konaté ahead of the 2026 window, according to The Athletic.
Konaté had been included on Real Madrid’s long-term defensive shortlist, but the club has now backed out of the race, ending months of speculation linking the French international to the Santiago Bernabéu.
This development comes after Real Madrid previously secured the signing of another Liverpool star, Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Meanwhile, Konaté is still in active discussions with Liverpool regarding a new contract. The Reds have already presented an offer, but the 26-year-old has yet to make a final decision on extending his stay at Anfield.
Since joining from RB Leipzig in 2021, Konaté has become an important member of Liverpool’s squad, and the club remains eager to retain him despite Real Madrid’s withdrawal.
