Reckless Driving Incident in Oyo: Two Killed, One Injured in Ibadan Crash

Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer for Oyo State, Adewale Osifeso, stated: “Kindly note that there are confirmed records of only two fatalities, while a third individual is currently receiving close medical attention. A 59-year-old man has been arrested and charged to court after allegedly driving recklessly and fatally hitting three pedestrians along the Ojoo-Iwo Road in the Ibadan North East Local Government Area of Oyo State. The incident, which occurred around noon last Wednesday, led to the immediate death of two victims, while a third sustained serious injuries.

According to PUNCH Online, eyewitnesses confirmed that the victims were walking when the driver, reportedly operating a Lexus vehicle, lost control and ran them over.

Suraju Oguntoye, one of the witnesses at the scene, said: “The victims were trekking when the incident occurred. The suspect is around 59 and 60 years of age. He ran over them. Two people (one female and one male) died immediately, while the third person was quickly rushed to the hospital with a fractured injury.”

Another witness, Chris Ogbonnaya, added: “The suspect dangerously drove his Lexus and caused the death of the victims.”

The victims, believed to be between 22 and 27 years old, had their bodies deposited in a government morgue in Ibadan, while the injured individual is currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

The case has been officially reported to the police station at the Testing Ground, and legal proceedings are underway in the Ibadan North East Local Government Area.
