Regina Daniels Defends Mother Amid Marital Crisis, Admits Falling in Love Against Family’s Warning
Actress Regina Daniels defends her mother and opens up about ignoring family warnings to marry Ned Nwoko, admitting she was “ashamed” for falling in love and vowing to fight for her children amid their ongoing marital crisis.
Nollywood actress and filmmaker Regina Daniels has appealed to Nigerians to stop attacking her mother, Rita Daniels, amid the ongoing crisis in her marriage with Senator Ned Nwoko.
In an emotional video posted on Instagram on Wednesday, Regina dismissed claims that she married out of greed, explaining that her family — including her mother — had initially opposed the marriage.
“The main essence of this video is to please, stop insulting my mom,” she said. “For some reason, I feel like I owe you all this explanation because I don’t know why everyone is in pain about my life. You all watched me grow up. It’s okay for you to have opinions — I understand that. But please, stop insulting my mom.”
The actress described her mother as her “greatest blessing” and expressed regret for not heeding her warnings.
“She’s the best thing that ever happened to me. She is my god on earth. She’s been strong for seven years. My mom held it down. You all insulted her, but she tried. It’s me. I’m the one with the coconut head,” Regina admitted.
“I’m so ashamed to say I fell in love. But I actually really did. Everyone said no — my mom, my brothers — but I still went ahead.”
Regina emphasized that her marriage to Ned Nwoko was not motivated by money.
“Stop saying I got married out of greed. We were not broke. And secondly, what money can a man give a mother to hand over a child who practically provides everything in the house?” she asked.
The actress also revealed that the emotional toll of her marriage once pushed her to the brink of suicide.
“I was a blessing to my mom. God used me to settle her. She warned me. My brothers warned me. Everyone warned me, but I still went ahead. I was going to kill myself if I didn’t marry Ned,” she said tearfully.
Despite the turmoil, Regina expressed continued respect for her estranged husband, stating that she would not engage in a public feud for the sake of their sons, Munir and Khalifa.
“I still care and respect him. That’s love — care and respect. The only reason I am not fighting you, Ned, is that I want Munir and Khalifa’s father’s name to be strong,” she explained.
However, she vowed to fight for custody and raise her children regardless of the situation.
“My family is actually in turmoil. It’s wild, but we’ll definitely come out of it. I’m going to fight for my children, Ned. I tried to be calm, but I’ll raise them with or without your support,” she said.
Regina’s remarks come after her marital troubles became public in October, when she accused Nwoko of physical assault, an allegation he denied, claiming her behaviour was influenced by substance abuse.
