First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu engaged in a brief onstage confrontation with Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on Sunday during the 10th coronation anniversary celebration of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, in Ile-Ife, where she received the chieftaincy title of Yeye-Asiwaju of Ile Oodua.

The event drew prominent figures including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, serving and former governors, senators, and traditional rulers.

During the programme, Governor Adeleke stepped up to deliver his remarks. True to his characteristic style, he danced briefly and then began to sing.

At this point, the First Lady approached him and said:
“I’m giving you five minutes to finish your speech. The music is enough.”

Adeleke continued singing, prompting Mrs Tinubu to return and warn:
“I will turn off the microphone. Stop the music.”

Videos capturing the exchange have since gone viral on social media.

The incident comes amid ongoing political developments in Osun State. Governor Adeleke recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and is reportedly searching for a new platform on which to contest for a second term. In a letter dated November 4, 2025, addressed to the PDP chairman of Sagba Ward 2, he cited internal party crises as his reason for leaving. On December 2, Adedamola Adebayo emerged as the PDP’s candidate for the 2026 governorship election.

Following her title conferment, Senator Tinubu declared that Nigeria would enter a period of significant prosperity starting next year.

“By 2026, Nigeria will be in prosperity. Other countries will come and borrow money from us. Those wondering how we will do it, we will show them,” she said, adding that the Tinubu administration would exceed expectations.

She also expressed appreciation to the Ooni for the honour, noting that the recognition brought her back into the social spotlight, as her last major public event was her 50th birthday celebration.
