Rivers Assembly Requests 7-Member Panel to Probe Governor Fubara, Deputy Odu

The Rivers State House of Assembly has written to Chief Judge Simeon Amadi, requesting a seven-member panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Prof. Ngozi Odu.

The Rivers State House of Assembly has formally written to the Chief Judge of the state, Hon. Justice Simeon Amadi, requesting the constitution of a seven-member panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu.

The letter was issued as the House resumed plenary on Friday at the Conference Hall within the legislative complex on the Aba–Port Harcourt Expressway.

Earlier on Friday, the Assembly held a press briefing where it resolved to proceed with impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy, describing them as “adamant and incorrigible.”

In the letter, signed by Speaker Hon. Martin Amaewhule, the Assembly cited Section 188(5) of the Constitution of Nigeria (1999, as amended) as the legal basis for the request.

The letter reads in part:

“I write to request that you appoint a panel of seven (7) persons to investigate the allegations of gross misconduct against His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS, the Governor of Rivers State, pursuant to section 188(5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).”

It added:

“At the 60th Legislative day of the Third Session of the 10th Assembly, the House resolved in compliance with section 188(4) of the Constitution that these allegations be investigated. In this regard, the acknowledged copy of the forwarding letter of the Notice of Allegations of Gross Misconduct; copies of the Rivers State Impeachment Panel (Conduct of Investigations) Procedure, 2025; and photocopies of newspaper publications of Guardian, Saturday Sun, Nation and other relevant documents are hereby attached for the use of the Panel.”

The Assembly assured the Chief Judge of its respect and cooperation in the process.
