Sanusi Lamido Sanusi: Egungun Be Careful Na Express You Dey Go -By Tife Owolabi
”There is a rule of thumb for comedians: “Get off the stage while they are still laughing.” For politicians, maybe it should be “Get off the stage while you are still laughing!”
Egungun becareful na Express you dey go ” which was used 19years ago by popular Fuji Musician,Abass Akande Obesere popularly known as “Omo Rapala or Papa Tosibe has resurfaced and assuming new order as a Cliche . It is a friendly- advice or warning ; a deep hearted one to a friend not to misbehave looking at his/her current position or disposition.
This is also no offense to the attire and emir stool as I have chosen this topic not to disparage the royal regalia but to speak on the current ordeal of the deposed Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II . Sanusi as gone from sublime to the ”ridiculous” given the circumstances surrounding his dethronement which he is oblivious of that he is being used as a pawn of chess by some political Gladiators.
Sanusi is no doubt an astute banker, brilliant and as Professor Wole Soyinka rightly puts Sanusi ,is one of the greatest reformers of our days . A great mind whose knowledge precede him looking back at his career as a banker and his sojourn at the Apex bank which brought about major transformations at the financial sector . Indeed he is a man who knows his onion and a firm adherent of truth and always already to speak it to power any day and anytime and damn the consequences.
Back in 2014 in order for the opposition to gain political mileage and to deflated the popularity of the ruling party, People’s Democratic Party,PDP , the then Governor of Kano state APC’s Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso (who is now in PDP) had hand picked Sanusi as the Emir of Kano . This is owing to how Sanusi was removed unceremoniously by then President Goodluck Jonathan as the then Governor of the Central Bank due to certain revelations on allegations of missing multi-billion-dollar at NNPC account. This was done in an attempt to spite Mr. Jonathan and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP as a prelude to 2015 general elections.
Sanusi, no doubt got the emir stool of Kano by partisan politics and same as way he was dethronement and little did he know that he is a pawn in the chess game of partisan politics and as for Governor Abdullahi Ganduje it was easy to buy into fear because Sanusi commentaries about his style of governance is heating up the polity which can make him unpopular before the masses so he decided to get Sanusi out of the way. Possibly, as many believe that it bothers on who becomes what in 2023 that Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and that of his Kano state Governor Abdullahi Ganduje are eyeing the Aso Rock perhaps as running mates to a Southerner If power rotation comes down south.
Whilst, the political gladiators are assembling and political manoeuvring have started to buildup particularly at the camp of ruling party, All Progressive Congress, APC, as it being rumoured that some power brokers wanted the deposed emir for the top job at the Aso Rock which perhaps caused for his dethronement . it still not confirm yet but when such news started flying around there could be an iota of truth. Nonetheless, a campaign branded vehicle of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi gunning for the job has appeared on social media.
While It is not confirm if he had hand in it or just a hatchet job to tarnish the image of the deposed emir. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi Shouldn’t act without first considering the possible consequences, less he falls into the murky waters of politics which ecology differs from banking and economics. He is a bride to many today particularly amongst the political actors who hover around him for milages in their political careers less they use him and dump.
In the game of chess, pawn is the most numerous piece in the game and in most circumstances, also the weakest. Pawn represents infantry use to fight battle just as it appears in the case of the deposed emir with his bromance with politicians, and this could mean making wisest decision that maybe at your advantage not otherwise. So, Egungun Becareful na express you day go .
