Senegal Defence Minister Commends ECOWAS Mission in Guinea-Bissau

Senegal’s Defence Minister Gen. Birame Diop (rtd) commended the ECOWAS Stabilisation Mission in Guinea-Bissau for maintaining peace, urging troops to uphold discipline and unity.

Senegal’s Minister of Defence, Gen. Birame Diop (rtd), has applauded the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB) for its role in safeguarding peace and stability in the country.

According to a statement on Monday by Maj. Yahaya Kabara, ESSMGB’s Public Information Officer, Diop gave the commendation during his visit to the mission’s headquarters in Bissau. He was accompanied by Guinea-Bissau’s Defence Minister, Dionysio Cabi, and Senegal’s Ambassador, Moussa Ndoye.

Diop praised the mission’s leadership under Force Commander Brig.-Gen. Edward Odinya Ojabo, urging troops to uphold discipline, unity, and mutual respect. He also stressed the need for tolerance, cooperation, and solidarity, advising them to work closely with local authorities and avoid worsening existing hardships.

“The image of ECOWAS and contributing countries must be preserved at all times,” Diop said.

In his response, Brig.-Gen. Ojabo thanked the visiting delegation and outlined both the mission’s achievements and ongoing challenges.
