Seven suspected cultists nabbed in Ekiti State

The Ekiti State Police Command in collaboration with men of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria has arrested seven suspected cult members.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Moronkeji Adesina, said, “The suspects were arrested around Broni-Broni quarry construction site in Omuo-Ekiti in Ekiti East Council Area where they were having their meeting and initiation of new members.”

The CP, in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, titled, ‘Ekiti Police arrest seven suspected cultists,’ listed the suspects as Gbenga (26 years), Akinola (22 years), Rotimi (35 years), Samuel (22 years), Abiodun (42 years), Olagunju (21 years) and Adekunle (24 years).

He stated, “The Anti-Cultism Unit of the Ekiti State Police Command, in collaboration with the VGN, Omuo-Ekiti Unit, on July 17, 2022, at about 7 pm, arrested seven suspected cultists.

“The suspects confessed that they are members of the Eiye Confraternity group and were having their usual meeting and registration of their new members when they were arrested.

“They were arrested with some wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp and their registration notebook that contains their names and ranks such as Coordinator, N.G1 to N.G5, Flight Commander 1 to Flight Commander 7, Eagle 1 to Eagle 8, Government and Mopol 33 among others.

“The suspects will be arraigned accordingly while effort is in progress to arrest other fleeing suspects,” the commissioner stated.
