Seyi Again – 2023 -By Abdulsalam Mubarak Adio
Owing to the above – which are mere tips of the iceberg of Seyi’s achievements – I would rather join other civil servants who receive salaries on the 25th with high hopes, and other indigenes and non-indigenes of Oyo State who has been praising our “godsend” Seyi to high heavens, an additional four years at the helm of Oyo affairs. Come 2023, may SEYI triumph!
He leads, he reads. He rose Oyo from ruins – ruins of disorderliness, autocracy, royal rumbles and unpaid salaries. He went to the secretariat with a mighty pen to rewrite the Oyo story. He was once led and had a sour taste of being badly-led, so he never wanted to lead others with disdain. Hence he connects his leadership dots properly.
Oyo state was never this good when he mounted the powerful seat, but beyond expectations, he had delivered and made Oyo an attraction for indigenes, tourists, and inventors. Engr Seyi Makinde had joined the list of few honest and reliable politicians who values the sanctity of promises.
Education wise, he had moved Oyo state from 26 to number 11 on the national log; he also cleared the #3,000 school fees that has affected students in their thousands. Engr Seyi is an economy expert who had successfully improved Oyo internally generated revenue from N1.7 billion per month to N3.3 billion monthly.
He has never taken the health care of his people with levity, that he had reconstructed and remodelled one private health centrer in each 351 wards, renovating 200 out of them. Our cries about insecurity triggered his agitations for the regional police, Amotekun. That he also provided them with necessary vehicles, tools and ammunitions.
Oyo is now very attractive to, even, outsiders. That tourists now come to the state to spend weekends, chill over bottle of drinks, play golf and all. He never spared the wings of corruption, cutting it to the minimum that he said in one of his interviews “If anyone is able to steal N20-25 million from this admin, he must be a genius.”
