Shamseldeen Ogunjimi appointed as Acting Accountant-General of the Federation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Mr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant General of the Federation (AGF).

The appointment, effective immediately, follows the pre-retirement leave of the incumbent AGF, Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein.

In a statement announcing the leadership transition, President Tinubu highlighted the importance of ensuring continuity in the management of Nigeria’s treasury.

He noted that Ogunjimi’s appointment aligns with his administration’s commitment to treasury policy reforms and effective financial governance.

Ogunjimi, a seasoned career civil servant and the most senior director in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), brings over three decades of experience in financial management.

His previous roles include Director of Funds at the OAGF and Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

An accomplished professional, Ogunjimi is a chartered accountant, certified fraud examiner, chartered stockbroker, and chartered security and investment specialist.

He holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Accountancy and a Master’s in Finance and Accounting.

Speaking on the appointment, President Tinubu stated: “The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation is pivotal to our nation’s treasury management operations. Mr. Ogunjimi’s wealth of experience and notable competence will ensure the continued effectiveness of this vital institution as we advance our economic reform agenda.”

The president also commended the outgoing AGF, Dr. Madein, for her dedication and service to the nation, noting her significant contributions to Nigeria’s financial management system.

Dr. Madein, who reaches the statutory retirement age in the civil service, is scheduled to officially retire on March 7, 2025.
