South East Governors Working Behind the Scenes for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release — Gov Otti
Abia State Governor Alex Otti says South East governors are actively engaging authorities to secure IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu’s release, assuring efforts are ongoing though not all are public.

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has assured that South East governors have not abandoned the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, contrary to claims in some quarters.
Speaking during a media parley on Thursday night in Umuahia, Otti revealed that the governors are in active discussions with relevant authorities to secure Kanu’s release. However, he stressed that not every effort can be made public.
“Some of the engagements and assurances we have received are not for public consumption since it may derail the process. But you can take it for granted that, as his Governor, I’m at the forefront of ensuring he comes back home. All the South East governors are together in this,” Otti said.
His remarks followed a protest at the Government House, Umuahia, where Igbo elders accused political leaders in the region of neglecting Kanu. They urged Otti to mobilize his colleagues to engage President Bola Tinubu on the matter.
The governor expressed optimism that ongoing engagements would produce positive outcomes.
On the recurring communal clashes between Itu community in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia and neighboring Cross River communities, Otti explained that the violence stemmed from unverified reports of natural resources, particularly limestone, in the disputed area. He said Abia’s Deputy Governor, Ikechukwu Emetu, has been leading talks with counterparts from Cross River and Akwa Ibom States in Abuja to restore peace.
“So please reassure the displaced people that they are not abandoned and that very soon they will return to their ancestral homes,” Otti said.
Reaffirming his commitment to Abia’s development, Otti vowed not to yield to blackmail or politically motivated attacks, but promised to remain open to constructive criticism.
