Speak out on fuel price controversy, Catholic Church tell Tinubu
The archbishop said: “NNPC is the one creating the problem. Why can’t they allow Dangote to sell fuel at a price convenient for him? If he likes, he can sell it free to the people. How can the NNPC dictate the price at which he sells his fuel? They are the ones destroying things; not Dangote.
In an effort to alleviate the pain of millions of Nigerians, THE Catholic Church of the Archdiocese of Ibadan yesterday charged President Bola Tinubu with speaking out on the fuel pricing dispute between the Dangote Refinery and the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, or NNPC.
Prior to his 75th birthday celebration, the church’s Archbishop, Most Rev. Gabriel “Leke Abegunrin,” stated this in a conversation with reporters in Ibadan.
The cleric questioned why NNPC was controlling the Aliko Dangote refinery’s fuel prices like middlemen.
“The Federal Government should stop that. Allow Dangote to sell his fuel at his price. Things will be better. There’s a lot of hunger, and cheating in the country. You can’t wait for the church to do everything.”
The clergyman also clarified that contrary to the belief of some people that schools founded by churches charge fees that are non-affordable for church members, he added that fees charged by Catholic Schools are the cheapest.
