Sponsorship of terrorism: Defence Headquarters probes allegations
The military has made significant strides in combating terrorism, killing 65 terrorist leaders and arresting several others. However, General Buba emphasized that winning the war on terrorism requires the support of the people, stating that “the military’s role is 30%, the rest is for sub-nationals and governance”.
The Defence Headquarters has launched an investigation into allegations of sponsorship of terrorism and banditry between Defence Minister of State, Bello Marawalle, and Zamfara Governor, Dauda Lawal.
The probe comes after the governor accused Marawalle of involvement with bandits, while Marawalle countered that the governor was working with terrorists.
According to Major General Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, relevant agencies are working to uncover the truth behind the allegations. “We’re focused on destroying the enemies’ will to fight, killing commanders, destroying logistics and administrative capabilities,” he said.
