STEM Africa Fest Empowers 3,000 Children with AI and STEAM Skills in Lagos
Over 3,000 children attended STEM Africa Fest 2025 in Lagos, gaining hands-on experience in AI, coding, robotics, and STEAM activities. The festival empowers young Africans to become future innovators and problem-solvers.
STEM Africa Fest, one of Africa’s premier STEAM-focused festivals for children, has reinforced its mission to equip young Africans with practical skills in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics at its 2025 edition in Lagos.
The festival welcomed over 3,000 attendees, highlighting its role in shaping the continent’s next generation of innovators, organisers said in a statement on Monday.
Co-founder Mrs. Jadesola Adedeji explained that the event aims to spark curiosity and hands-on learning among children.
“Each year, STEM Africa Fest reminds us of what is possible when children are given the space to explore, question, and build. This isn’t just about STEM; it’s about unlocking potential and preparing a generation of young Africans to lead boldly in a tech-driven world,” Adedeji said.
The 2025 edition, themed ‘AI for Good’, focused on the potential of artificial intelligence to address real-world challenges. Attendees engaged in interactive workshops on coding, robotics, virtual reality, drone technology, engineering, science experiments, and crafts, experiencing technology through immersive, practical activities.
Ms. Titi Adewusi, co-founder of 9ijakids and co-organiser, stressed the festival’s role in closing Africa’s skills gap.
“STEM Africa Fest is more than a one-day event; it’s a gateway to preparing Africa’s next generation of problem-solvers, innovators, and critical thinkers. The skills gap is a shared challenge, and partnerships such as STEM Africa Fest are the way forward to address it,” Adewusi said.
A standout moment was a live AI demonstration by Creative AI Technologist Malik Afegbua, creator of The Elder Series, showing children how AI can be used for creativity and storytelling. Workshops in robotics, coding, virtual reality, and drones, along with STEAM-based craft sessions, further engaged participants.
The festival also hosted a raffle, awarding tablets and smartwatches to lucky attendees, including Olayinka Favour, who won a tablet, and Fisaju Champion, who received a smartwatch.
Organised by 9ijakids and STEM-METS in partnership with Argentil Capital Partners, Access Bank, First E & P, Oando, First Bank, Flour Mills, and Dorman Long Engineering, STEM Africa Fest has reached over 20,000 children, students, parents, and educators across Nigeria and other African nations since 2021.
