Street begging in Nigeria and the way out -By Usman Muhammad Salihu
Another disheartening factors are poverty, illiteracy and in some cases, society’s influence who instead of orienting some people but prefer to reject them.
Street begging menace is in essence, a social phenomena that supposed to be controlled by both the government, society and any other profitable organisations.
Street begging is the practice of imploring others to grant a favor, often a gift of money with little or no expectation of reciprocation in motor parks, markets or any area that gathers people.
Street begging has now become rampant in almost all the cities of our country especially in the north.
These beggars have constituted themselves into a nuisance situation.
In a gentle manner, their are quite a number of these beggars harass and sometimes when there is traffic hold up, you see them in groups bombarding motorist in an attempt to beg especially in our major highways.
One major contributing factor for the street begging menace is the downturn of our country’s economy. Many industries or factories were closed down and some of the staff therefore have no other way that will make life easier for them than to beg instead of diverting to another business.
Some able-bodied people wants to enjoy easy life without hardworking, instead of them to join profitable ventures, they prefer to beg which according to them will make life so simple.

The government should enact a law that any able-bodied person found begging should be punished. Those with disability be take care of.
Country’s economy be improved. The closed industries should be opened and creating of new ones this will drastically changed the narrative of the story by curbing the menace of unemployment.
Revamping of agricultural sector will also provide more jobs opportunities to our teeming youths roaming and begging around our streets.
With the above assertion if put in place and well maintained, the street begging menace will be one day totally eradicated in our society.
