Tambuwal’s Arrest Politically Motivated – Sokoto PDP

The statement reads: “The so-called investigation is nothing more than a fishing expedition, revived from an old phantom case that has failed to produce evidence in the past. It is the handiwork of political actors in Sokoto and Abuja who are desperate to smear Tambuwal’s enviable image and force him to abandon his stand against misrule.”

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State has condemned the arrest of former governor and current senator, Aminu Tambuwal, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), calling it a politically motivated move aimed at silencing the opposition.

Tambuwal, who served as governor of Sokoto State for eight years and previously held the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, was detained by the EFCC on Monday over alleged financial misconduct during his time in office.

In a statement issued in the early hours of Tuesday and signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Hassan Sanyinnawal, the Sokoto PDP accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government of orchestrating the arrest to intimidate political opponents and undermine growing opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The PDP also defended Tambuwal’s tenure, asserting that his administration was characterized by fiscal discipline and transparency. The party further accused the EFCC of selective prosecution, citing the failure to investigate “genuine corruption cases” involving members of the ruling party.

Calling on anti-graft agencies to act impartially, the PDP urged its supporters and the people of Sokoto to stay calm but remain steadfast in their pursuit of genuine democracy and good governance.

“Our trust in Tambuwal’s integrity cannot be shaken by politically motivated probes,” the party concluded.
