Community leaders from Sokoto State’s Eastern Senatorial District have urged the government and security agencies to urgently intervene following fresh threats allegedly issued by notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, which have forced residents of Tidibale and surrounding communities to flee their homes.

The Secretary of the Sokoto Eastern Zone Development Association, Muazu Shamaki, confirmed that a video circulating on social media showing residents abandoning Tidibale was linked to the reported threats by Turji. He said the situation had plunged affected communities into severe hardship.

Shamaki disclosed that more than 20 settlements have been impacted by the threats and forced displacement, adding that displaced residents remain hopeful that security forces will repel the terrorists and allow them to return to their ancestral homes.

Another stakeholder, Malam Bashar Guyawa-Isa, revealed that some residents have sought refuge in neighbouring communities across the border in the Niger Republic. He appealed for swift government action, noting that several communities have been completely deserted.

Across parts of Sokoto State, fear continues to spread as reports of impending attacks by Turji and his group circulate, prompting families to flee in search of safety. Unverified videos shared online show residents escaping in overcrowded vehicles, highlighting the growing humanitarian crisis in the affected areas.
