The Incessant In Cybercrime: A Blame To All Tiers Of Government -By Olayinka Abdurrazzaq

As the use of computers and the internet increases in Nigeria, criminal-minded individuals are also devising different ways and means to commit crimes through computers and the internet.

The mother of all vices in Nigeria is corruption. And the corruption gives birth to any child other than desperate. And desperate gives no benefit than the destruction of a nation. If the fighting against this mother is taking with levity hand, believe me, the effect of its children will get beyond the control and it will cause nothing but havoc.

The consequence of corruption is what we are witnessing today. And it will not die down until Nigeria is ready to resolve the problem from its root. The problem with this country is Nigerians. And the problem of Nigerians are our leaders. That is why Prof. Lumumba said, “Africans are given their deserved leaders”. Even if all Nigerians are to move to Saudi Arabia, the leaders over there will automatically turn to Nigerian and there won’t be any changes. This is because corruption has been running in the veins of Africans. Which can never be eradicated unless All Nigerians are dead in a day.

The rampant and incessant cases of Cybercrime in Nigeria is just a child amongst the children of the corruption. And it is impossible dear Nigerians to kill a lion’s child before its eyes. Definitely, the attempted killer will be turned to a roasted salad on that day.

Nobody is left out of the blame for this inhuman; the victims and the perpetrators, but the government carried a larger portion of it. The government includes Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary. The thrice are the cogs that clog the eradication of cybercrime in Nigeria.

All the armed forces in Nigeria have been seriously obsessed with corruption and bribery. It has eaten up their faces from seeing the beauty of their duties. The main duty of this body is to secure Nigerians, but sincerely speaking, the reverse is the case in Nigeria. The Cybercrimes are going scotfree with their exotic cars by bribing our police, Sars, and all other related bodies that their duty is to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians. But nowadays, neither Nigerians’ lives nor properties are saved. What a lost glory!

The law-drafters are just sleeping in their Houses. There is no any enacted law for Cybercrime not to talk of strict punishment. And these people are calling themselves law-Makers. What are they making, please? Only the bill that will polish their pockets will see the light of the day. They are honestly representing their families, not Nigerians.

Unlike other countries like the US, UK, and South Africa where laws are in place to combat cybercrime, Nigeria is yet to pass its Cybercrime Bill into law, and even when it is eventually passed, the government needs to be committed to its implementation. Because implementation is the oxygen of the law that gives breathing to its existence.

Like other tiers, judicial activism has died in Nigeria that is why our judiciary sector is actionless. This sector also has engrossed in corruption and bribery. That is why Cybercrimers are getting a merely nauseating punishment for their actions. Hardly one will see where a cyber thief gets a severe punishment for such an unholy act.

As of now, hackers of computers and perpetrators of other forms of cybercrime in Nigeria may escape criminal prosecution due to a lack of law in this area. Therefore, the cybercrime may continue to persist, if the government does not take a necessary step to combat it via the arsenal of law.
