The North as Dump Site of Every Slur… -By Abdullahi O. Haruna

At a time the world is harnessing its diversity for greater goal, we are here disparaging ourselves. This is nothing but a manifestation of weak minds, debased orientations and total loss of values. It takes inhumanity to see another human as inferior. Whoever harbours this kind of mentality is a byproduct of a troubled birth.

Why are northerners described in derogatory reference to quota system by some insecure Nigerians? Are we referring to the same north that controls the pulse of the nation or the north that stands in equal brilliance to other regions in Nigeria? It’s so disgusting hearing those without solid base of intellect referring to the north as byproducts of quota system!

Abdulaziz Abdulaziz and Sumner Shagari Sambo in recent have dominated the many journalistic accolades reserved for journalists in Nigeria. These two gentlemen amongst other shining stars hail from the north yet some people who assume they are born with superior intellect sees the north as backward and primitive – forgetting that there is no better civilisation than the north.

See the barrage of ethnic slurs that greeted Super Eagles’ Sadiq Umar performance yesterday at the ongoing AFCON in Cameroun. The guy was ethnically profiled as product of favoured selection and not befitting of a playtime in the eagles’ lineup. These sets of Nigerians were united in their tribal vitriolic that you begin to wonder if the people in the north are of different blood than the people in the south, whether it has become a crime to be northerner?
