Insecurity in Northern Nigeria

The Northern part is the widest region in Nigeria; it comprises three geopolitical zones (the North-West, the North-East, and the North-Central) of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. Northern Nigeria also encompasses nineteen states out of the country thirty-six states.

This part of Nigeria is blessed with many populations that entail numerous ethnic groups that speak several languages. Among this population are scholars, leaders, artisans, and patriots.

Nigeria entirely has been facing the battle of insecurity, but it’s enormous in the Northern part of the country. Many Northern dwellers had lost their lives to the hand of terrorism, which until now, hasn’t been conquered.

The Northern is seriously bleeding like a woman in delivery labor, as the blood of innocents is used to paint the soil of their fatherland.

Sympathetically, uncountable citizens have become orphans, homeless, beggars, childless, jobless, motherless, fatherless, lifeless due to the rain of terrorism, killing, banditry, and crisis falling in the North.

Relatedly, in December 2012, at least twenty Christians were killed in attacks by suspected militants in Northern states, Yobe and Bornu over the Christians new year period. All these dilemmas are because of the lack of adequate security in the North.

Thoughtfully, the Nigerian government is unable to overcome the insecurity problems facing the nation like the light of a night car facing someone’s eye, yet other sects of peace destroyers are still erupting such as unknown gunmen and the bandits.

On Monday, 6th December 2021, bandits that have been known for kidnapping and killing, set ablaze a 42-seater bus through which 23 passengers lost their lives and others were injured in Sabon Birni Local Government, Sokoto State, en route to Kaduna State. Despite all the atrocities committed, the Federal Government of Nigeria hasn’t declared them (bandits) terrorists.

Recently, it was reported that bandits have killed a member of the Kaduna state house of assembly, Rilwanu Aminu Gadagau, who represents Giwa West constituency. He was killed on Wednesday, 16 December 2021, in Kaduna state, and his corpse was found in his own car.

Considering all the bitter food that the terrorists are serving the Northerners, a peaceful protest was organized in Abuja on 16 December, 2021 with the theme: “Northern is bleeding! Buhari is sleeping!”

These issues of insecurity and terrorism in the North need to be addressed by our leaders, because northerners also need to live a safe life. Adequate security should be assigned to the north to protect the life and property of the people.
