The Threefold Politicians From Katsina Metropolis: Agents For Youth Participation In Politics 2023 -By Sagir Gambo Saulawa

Dr Bishir Gambo Saulawa, Hon. Aliyu Abubakar Alibaba, and Matawallen Katsina were set of home-grown politicians of modest character from Katsina metropolis . If it is about competence in the business of governance having served in various capacities and they were well known for their good tracked records in public Service. Competence, moral character,, compassion, and commitment are lattributes to look out for when considering efficacy of these modelled and inspired politicians since from their early days of Politics. This is not surprise considering the grassroot political orientation from different prominent politicians such as Late Alh. Lawal Kaita, Late Shehu Musa Yar’adua, Alh. Sa’idu Barda former Governor of katsina State, Late Umar Musa Yar’adua Former president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator, Senator Abba Ali, Senator Abu Ibrahim and his excellency the executive Governor of Katsina State and many more political personalities who remains legends in the political history of katsina state and Nigeria in general.

The political journey of these young, upright individuals, vibrant and aspiring intellectual politicians and elites with vast and enduring experiences are what the people are looking for in steering the political mantle of the state and fruitful representation at National level. Their vision is to revive the youth spirit in political participation and realisation of their value in politics, and to find necessary means of youth empowerment and development.

The tag team representation in the political scene have awaken youth and elders full participation and support for government not even from APC but also from other political parties. This can vividly been seen during the clearance of Dr. Bishir Gambo Saulawa as member Executive Council by the Katsina State House of Assembly, Katsina State and his Swearing in as the Commissioner for sport and social development.

Dr. Bishir Gambo is a constant feature and always a force to reckon with in Katsina State and National politics and a political asset, a rare mixture of an educationist, a bureaucrat and a politician with formidable grassroot background and generous touch of humility. Before his appointment he was the Registrar Meteorological Institute of Science and Technology, Katsina, the head of the Environment in the office of the Deputy Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Various times the Commissioner for Rural Social Development, Youth and Sports who ensure the completion of New township Stadium and Youth craft village. The Special Advisor on labor and productivity to the Governor of Katsina State and also one time General Manager of the Katsina State Transport Authority (KTSTA) who transform the authority by equipping it with new Macpollos and Hiaces buses. As well as the Project Coordinator of the NEEM Processing Plant of the National Research Institute of Chemical Technology (NARICT) Zaria, the first pioneer who ensure the immediate commencement of Soap, fertilizer and insecticides production. He was the Senior Special Assistant (Political) to the late Umaru Yar’adua when he was the Governor of Katsina State. At different times he was engaged as a part-time lecturer at the Al-Qalam University Katsina and Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic. He was also a member of the inter-departmental committee on the review of the 1999 constitution in the 9th assembly.

The history of katsina metropolis cannot be written without honourably mention of Dr. Bishir Gambo Saulawa when he was an elected Katsina Local Government Chairman, after his stint as a Supervisory Councilor. He employed hundreds of youth, majority now are holding different senior positions in the Local government service commission including various developmental projects such as drainages, Colvert, electrification , roads and students scholarship. One major development during his tenure is the provision of many Hiaces for transportation in and outside katsina metropolis.

The representation of Hon. Aliyu Abubakar Albaba as member representing katsina constituency Katsina State House of Assembly is productive and encouraging for his role in forwarding different motions for the betterment of the society. Motions calling for immediate measure against intrusion of banditry and kidnapping in katsina metropolis ,moves to prohibit use of vulgar words by medicine sellers in public, motion for prohibition of sales and consumption of drugs, Motion on withdrawal of road safety activities within katsina metropolis , withdrawal of covid -19 lockdown, motion for rape and domestic violence cases, etc. In a bid to improve the quality of health education amongst youths, Honourable Aliyu Abubakar Albaba, also sponsored two weeks extra lessons for indigenes of Katsina local government area seeking admission into the nursing profession and the training of youth who have registered for WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB. Hon Albaba like his counter part Dr. Bishir Gambo pursue a motivational policy of youth empowerment through sponsored skills acquisition and career guidance. Likewise he was well known for his courtesy visit and participation in all community happenings. His party primary re-election is a reflection of his good governance which remain as his focus and mission.

Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua (Matawallen Katsina) was a graduate with a Bachelor degree in Physic and bagged an M.Sc in Electrical Engineering. He started his military career as a soldier who served in the Nigeria Army Signals Corps. He attend several civil and military courses. He held several military appointment ranging from staff instructor to Assist Director of Record Army Head quarter, Abuja. He attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before his voluntary retirement from the service. Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, was last appointment the chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA’s) Board of Governors.

After a fulfilling his military career, he venture into politics in 2010 and joined the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). After a success merger between his party and other political parties to form the All progressive Change (APC), he register and became a founding member of the APC in Katsina State in 2014. He contested the party primary for the Governorship in 2015 but lost to the incumbent Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari (Dallatun Katsina). Driven by his commitment to serve his people and commitment in whatever capacity he contested for the House of representative and the katsina Central Senate position at different times, losing all at the party primary, until the 2022 when he successfully emerged as the winner Katsina Senatorial Seat APC primary election. Abdulaziz is a man of patient, dedication and honesty .He proudly honored by many of the citizen of the state because of his family and historical background as well as his impeccable character of friendliness and zeal to uphold the polical legacy of his family ,whose political history of Katsina State and Nigeria in general can not be complete without them.

Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari at this time clearly needs upright individuals, educational elites focused with visionary experience and energy to take over the political hurdles of the State also young politicians with versatile exposure in all aspects of life in this crucial time. I am calling on the good peoples of Katsina the youth to think, rethink, and decide on their future, going by the political style and good tracked record of these young and aspiring politicians ,their consistency, determination, and focus on youth and societal development remain their vision and mission. I wish to register my appreciation to the youth for their engagement and support to their political journey and in particular the government of Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari for his placement of the poles to the right pits with aim of offering thieir contribution towards the development of the state.
