Tinubu: An epitome of the current Nigeria’s Political Arena -By Jimoh Abdullahi

Abdulmumin Jibrin was asked regarding the corruption allegations of his boss,on  the live interview on TVC  television station he evasively answered the question, and said people should not mind the critics. Moreover, what made some people tell him to step down for the youths is not far-fetched. In November 2009,  former president of Nigeria, Umar Musa Yar’adua was moved out of the country for medical treatment, having been battling acute kidney failure, until his death in May 2010.

Amotekun and Tinubu

A seventy years old  man rose all of a sudden like a morning sun in the East, having been harboring his ridiculous aspiration to pilot the political affairs of Nigeria for a very long time. ” Becoming president  of this country is my life- long ambition”  when he declared his ambition to the incumbent, President Muhammad Buhari on January 2022. Being a former senator of Lagos west, (in the faded third republic)  under the umbrella of Social Democratic party (SPD) before it was dissolved by General Sani Abacha in 1993. His  personal strategy made him to dash out in 2007 from the governorship position after his two terms in office (8years) to the more powerful post of National leader of All Progressive Congress (APC) one  of the ruling parties, in the country formed in 2013 after the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). Now, he is aspiring to swing into the presidential post in 2023. Being a godfather of the reigning  and prominent party, he used that potential, charisma and opportunity to raise more People under him by taking them to the vault of politics, where they could have their own share of the sweet political cakes out of selflessness and parsimony. His strong impact in the 2019 election that brought in President Muhammad Buhari can not be overstated. The man in question is chief Bola  Hammed Tinubu.

His Stratagem

Among other presidential candidates he seems to be more astute and intelligent. As an old politician, he is conscious of the political instrumentality of Nigeria, thus, he said, he had to consult some people which he is already undergoing meticulously and craftily both in and outside the country. Presently, 14 Governors and 26 APC chairmen across the States of the federation have pledged their allegiance to him, according to the report. Recently, on his courtesy visitation to Oyo State  there, he asked for the support of king Lekan Balogun of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, and Alafin of Oyo Kingdom, Lamidi Adeyemi III, and after a few days, he also paid homage to King Enitan  in Ile-Ife, and king Jimoh Olanipekun in Osogbo, Osun state. They freely gave him their royal blessings, however he knows that those monarchs undoubtedly have leverage and power to manipulate their subjects in South Western Nigeria that is why he is humbly consulting them one by one . In 2021, a group in Northern Nigeria, known as Arewa Youth Alliance 2023 through their leader, Hon. Bello Lawan charged all political parties in Nigeria to support Bola Tinubu owing to his  capability, experience and technical know-how of Nigeria’s sorrow, which  is conflicting with that of the Arewa Youth consultative forum (AYCF) in that same region who through its leader, Yerima Shettima told him to go and rest and allow the vibrant youths to take the mantle.

People’s Doubt

To many, he had set a good records in the economy of the mega city, Lagos State  because he was the one that laid a solid foundation which his successor, Babatunde Raji Fashola was able to turn into a beautiful elevation, making it easy for Ambode, the successor of Raji and the currently serving Governor, Babajide Sanwolu (Ambode’s successor) to ornament the state beautifully which makes it to stand out among other states in the country, which they believe if elected, he may distill  such tactics in the positive transformation of Nigeria. But various corruption allegations leveled against him remains a roadblock, according to a circulating picture on social media, on the eve of 2019 general election, a bullion van was sighted entering his residence at Bourdillon road  Ikoyi, Lagos. This is part of what fuels people’s doubts of his integrity. And people also considered him as a metaphor of aged and Ill-health, because according to news reports in October 2021, he arrived from London to Nigeria after his right knee surgical operation. When the Director general of his support group, Abdulmumin Jibrin was asked regarding the corruption allegations of his boss,on  the live interview on TVC  television station he evasively answered the question, and said people should not mind the critics. Moreover, what made some people tell him to step down for the youths is not far-fetched. In November 2009,  former president of Nigeria, Umar Musa Yar’adua was moved out of the country for medical treatment, having been battling acute kidney failure, until his death in May 2010. His sudden death makes his surrogate, Good luck Ebele Jonathan to continue. That is equivalent to what the serving president Muhammadu Buhari is into. He had gone on a medical trip 6 different times between 2015 and 2021 to London, making it impossible for him to discharge his primary assignments in Aso Villa dutifully.

People’s wishes

Those past experiences are part of what make people to be clamoring for the young people’s inclusion in government, and telling Tinubu to step down for the youths and serve as their coach, when they believe in his vast political knowledge  and the youths’ agility, strength and sound health to run the cumbersome political affairs of Nigeria. contrastively, he said there is no rule banning a king maker to be king himself when he was interviewed by the State’s House correspondents. That remark showcases Nigeria’s political ambience that does not allow just anybody from nowhere, for the existing system is placed on a rotating cycle, that is circumambulating the old political elites. Atiku, Bukola Saraki and others who are still among the presidential candidates, are the cases in point.which means, eyeing the zenith by the youths is just a reverie. They can only start from scratch.
