Tinubu Departs Japan, Heads to Brazil for State Visit Focused on Trade and Security
Tinubu’s international tour began with his departure from Abuja on August 15. En route to Japan, he made a brief stop in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before arriving in Yokohama on the morning of August 18.
President Bola Tinubu departed Yokohama, Japan, on Thursday night, heading to Brazil for the second leg of his two-nation tour. The state visit to Brazil is scheduled to begin on Sunday, August 24.
According to Presidential spokesperson Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President will make a stopover in Los Angeles before continuing to Brasília, the Brazilian capital.

During his stay in Japan, Tinubu took part in the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), attending both the opening and plenary sessions on August 20. He also engaged in a series of bilateral meetings with Japanese government officials, business leaders, and development partners to strengthen Nigeria–Japan relations.
The President used the opportunity to highlight Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms and called for increased Japanese investment in sectors such as infrastructure, technology, and renewable energy.
Concluding his visit to Japan, Tinubu held an interactive session with Nigerians living in the country, commending their contributions to national development. “Remain good ambassadors of Nigeria,” he urged, encouraging them to invest in the country’s future.
In Brazil, Tinubu is expected to focus on deepening cooperation in trade, security, agriculture, energy transition, and cultural exchange. He will meet with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and other senior Brazilian officials to reinforce bilateral ties between Nigeria and Latin America’s largest economy.
The President will also engage with the Nigerian community in Brazil, briefing them on government policies and encouraging greater diaspora involvement in national development.
The Presidency confirmed that President Tinubu is scheduled to return to Nigeria after concluding his official engagements in Brazil.
